Mayor Wilson Announces Police Chief Search Advisory Committee
Seattle — Today, Mayor Katie B. Wilson announced the full membership of the Chief of Police Search Advisory Committee, bringing together community leaders, public safety professionals, labor representatives, business leaders, and advocates to help guide the search for Seattle’s next Chief of Police.
“Choosing Seattle’s next Chief of Police is one of the most consequential decisions I will make as mayor,” said Mayor Wilson. “Our goal with this advisory committee is to bring together different experiences and perspectives so we can conduct a thoughtful, rigorous search. The members of this committee share a commitment to Seattle and understand just how important strong, trusted leadership at our police department is to the future of our city. I’m grateful to Justice Mary Yu, Ian Warner, and every member of this committee for stepping forward to serve our city and help us get this important decision right.”
The Mayor’s Office launched the national search in August and has committed to extensive community engagement throughout the process, including a public survey, listening sessions across the city, and community roundtables to help identify the qualities, experience, and priorities Seattle residents want to see in their next police chief.

The Advisory Committee will evaluate candidates based on their executive leadership qualifications and experience, as well as priorities identified by Seattle residents through the City’s community engagement process. The committee will recommend up to five candidates to advance to a competitive examination, as required by the City Charter.
The Advisory Committee’s work will be informed by community engagement conducted throughout September and October. Candidate review by the Advisory Committee is expected to take place in November, followed by the competitive examination process and finalist interviews with Mayor Wilson in December.
The Mayor anticipates announcing her selection by the beginning of 2027.
