Joint Statement from Mayor Katie Wilson and Interim Chief Andre Sayles
Our community deserves clarity and accountability, and we take that responsibility seriously. To meet that commitment, we have released text message communications related to the Bite of Seattle incident from both of our offices.
Since the incident, we have been working collaboratively to build a stronger, more transparent communications strategy between the Mayor’s Office and the Seattle Police Department. Our shared goal is to ensure the public receives timely, accurate, and direct information, especially during moments that affect public safety and community trust.
This incident made clear that faster coordination and clearer protocols are needed when sharing information with the public. We have already implemented stronger internal processes and communications protocols, and are committed to communicating openly with Seattle residents as this work continues.
Seattle is a uniquely great city, with a bright future. We remain focused on serving this city with integrity, transparency, and mutual accountability.
