Spokane Complex Fires Next Steps Resource Guide

Vital Documents

Vital documents are important after a wildfire because they’re often need to prove identity and eligibility for assistance.

Resources:

Fire Reports

Why do I need a fire report? Some insurers require documented proof of the fire. A fire report helps verify that the damage was caused by the wildfire and aids with claims. Additionally, fire reports may help with legal and financial needs, as well as replacing documents.

Resources:

  • Please contact the administrative office for your specific fire department or complete a public records request online.
    1. Spokane Fire Department: 509-625-6350 or [email protected]
    2. Spokane County Fire District 4: 509-467-4500 or www.SCFD4.org
    3. Spokane County Fire District 9: 509-466-4602 or www.SCFD9.org
    4. Spokane County Fire District 10: 509-244-2425 or www.SCFD10.org

Insurance

Does my homeowner’s insurance cover the full cost of rebuilding my home? Home or renter’s insurance policies typically cover damage from wildfire the same as any other fire. You can contact your insurance agent or company to ask if you are covered before filing a claim. If the loss is not covered, you do not want a filed claim on your record.

Financial Assistance

Am I qualified for financial assistance? Several financial assistance programs are available to support fire survivors, each with its own eligibility requirements.

Resources:

  • State Individual Assistance: People whose homes were lost or severely damaged by the wildfires are encouraged to apply regardless of their income or whether they have insurance.
  • Disaster Cash Assistance through DSHS: An emergency cash assistance program available to people who are not eligible for other cash assistance programs.
  • Red Cross: To apply and receive assistance, individuals must come in person to one of the service centers.
